Open Banktrail as a desktop app and review your statements, accounting entries and supporting evidence in one place. Your ledger stays in a local file. No terminal, Python installation or separate server to start.

Mac and Windows downloads

The desktop app is in preview. Public installers are not available yet. The current builds are unsigned previews; signed releases will be linked here when available.

The review tools, in a desktop window

  • Import statement exports. Read CSV, XLS, XLSX, HTML and text-layer PDFs. Check statement arithmetic, unread rows and gaps between statements.
  • Keep evidence with the record. Add tags, comments and supporting images. Follow each bank transaction back to its statement source.
  • Bring accounting entries alongside the bank. Create named ledgers, import CSV entries and record matches you can follow in both directions.
  • Move quickly through your review. Search and filter transactions, switch sections with familiar keyboard shortcuts, and keep your preferred window size and theme.

The desktop package reads text-layer PDFs. Cloud OCR for scanned statements is not included. See supported formats and their limits.

Start with a new ledger, or open one you already have

Banktrail creates a local ledger on first launch. Use File → New Ledger to start another, or File → Open Ledger to choose an existing .db, .sqlite or .sqlite3 file. The app remembers your last opened ledger.

Opening a ledger edits that file directly. Use a copy if you want to try the preview without changing your working ledger. The desktop app is for local, single-user work; the hosted workspace provides account-based access in your browser.

Connect an agent to the ledger you choose

Open Settings → MCP connection to create a separate, revocable connection and copy the configuration into your MCP-compatible client. The app includes the connection software, so no separate Banktrail installation is needed.

Keep the app and the selected ledger open while the client is connected. Each connection belongs to that ledger. If you connect an external AI service, the data it reads is subject to that service’s settings and policies.
